Description

country

19

Country is represented by a standard 2-character code based on WIPO ST.3.

doc-number

doc-number is generally provided in DocDB-normalized format. Exceptions include WO documents, where the doc-number is normalized to YYYYnnnnnn and US pre-granted documents where the doc-number is normalized to YYYYnnnnnnn. We also recommend checking the Release Notes for patent number or kind code changes.
Patent document numbering is a complex subject, as the examples below illustrate:

The kind code is used to designate the publication stage of the document, including whether it is a published application or a granted patent. See ST.16.

Note that some documents (utility models, reissued patents, etc.) contain non-standard kind codes used by various patent-granting authorities. See the Kind Code Concordance List for a list of many of the kind codes corresponding to the different publication stages of a patent application.
